Complete the following and submit it in a Word document. Be sure to show your process and calculations:
Assume you have just retired as the CEO of a successful company. A major publisher has offered you a book deal. The publisher will pay you $1 million up front if you agree to write a book about your experiences. You estimate that it will take three years to write the book. The time you spend writing will cause you to give up speaking engagements amounting to $500,000 per year. You estimate your opportunity cost to be 10%.
Should you accept this deal? Plot a diagram that measures NPV (on the y-axis) vs. discount rate (on the x-axis) to solve this problem. (Hint: Have your scale on the x-axis go to 50% (discount rate)).
Determine the IRR for this deal. (Hint: IRR is the point at which NPV = 0)
Suppose you inform the publisher that it needs to sweeten the deal before you will accept it. The publisher offers $550,000 advance and $1,000,000 in four years when the book is published.
Should you accept or reject the new offer? Again, plot a diagram that measures NVP (on the y-axis) vs. discount rate (on the x-axis) to solve this problem. (Hint: Have your scale on the x-axis go to 50% (discount rate)).
Determine the IRRs for this deal (Hint: There are two IRRs for this problem).
Discuss if the IRR rule for making budgetary decisions can be used in this case.
Finally, you are able to get the publisher to increase your advance to $750,000, in addition to the $1 million when the book is published in four years.
Should you accept or reject this new offer? Again, plot a diagram that measures NVP (on the y-axis) vs. discount rate (on the x-axis) to solve this problem. (Hint: Have your scale on the x-axis go to 50% (discount rate)).
Determine the IRR for this deal.
State three conclusions regarding the use of IRR vs. NPV that you can make from questions 2–4. Which is the stronger method to use (IRR or NPV), and why?
Thread:
Review the case study from last week’s Paper: Business Formation Assignment.
Part 1: Hiring
For this discussion thread, explain your analysis and conclusions on hiring Kelsey and Carlos as employees (not including them as partners or co-owners). Focus on the legal issues of including race, religion, and other protected classes in your hiring decisions. We already know Kelsey is a Christian and Carlos is not; assume Shania and Kelsey are Black while Carlos is Hispanic.
If your paper last week addressed these specific questions, you may use that section of your paper as the basis of your answer to Part 1 of this thread.
Part 2: Promotion
Now assume that Shania’s coffeehouse has become so successful that she has 20 employees and needs to promote someone to be the night shift supervisor. The employee base is quite diverse and Shania wants to include diversity in her promotion decision to demonstrate how inclusive her business is. Explore the legal, Biblical, and ethical issues if Shania makes her promotion decision entirely on that basis. What are her options?

According to Berkowitz (2017), the hospital’s advertising campaign regarding the two new suburban primary care sites concluded that their advertising was effective due to more of the population being aware of their services. The pediatric orthopedic department has about half of the population being aware of their services compared to the primary care sites in both neighborhood A and B, at 42% awareness, which is very low.
The pediatric orthopedic department should focus on improving the awareness of their services and products since their awareness is much lower than other facilities. This can be done by launching a campaign where the population for these services are higher and can be advertised in the local newspaper, social media, and the radio to bring awareness to more of the population. The pediatric orthopedic department has a creative campaign at 28.6% meaning that of the people who saw the service did try it out compared to neighborhood A and B for the primary care sites.
The effective ratio is usually “used to analyze how well a company uses its assets and liabilities internally” (Kenton, 2021) and the pediatric orthopedic department has a relatively low effective ratio compared the hospitals in both neighborhood A and B. The department should focus on improving their services due to the number of people trying the service and those who are regular users of the service are very low. This can be done through surveys and feedback on the services to get a better understanding of where they need to improve and why the population is not satisfied so they can be more effective and successful.

Compared to the hospital in Table 14-7, this facility’s advertising effectiveness didn’t reach as many individuals as intended, 88% of the target audiences were aware of the services offered by the hospital in Table 14-7, compared to 42% for the medical group in the discussion. The creative effectiveness ratio was significantly higher for the medical group at 25%, compared to 12.5% of the facility listed in Table 14-7, while the comparison of the service effectiveness ratio is 36.4% for the facility listed in Table 14-7(Berkowitz, 2017), compared to 25% at the medical group.
The medical group has some work to do in reaching more of the customers/patients in the neighborhood and according to the data provided, this would increase the number of people to try the service, since the creative effectiveness numbers are better than the facility in table 14-7 who had a higher awareness number. The adjustments to increase viewership could be in the form of radio ads, billboards, and community outreach at local vendors and stores in the neighborhood, getting out into the neighborhood you’re serving will increase the group’s footprint. The group can also make sure they offer the best care possible because one of the most effective marketing tools is word of mouth.

Elaborate on why the net present value (NPV) of a relatively long-term project is more sensitive to changes in the cost of capital than is the NPV of a short-term project.
