The content of your Final Project should be the same regardless of the format.
In this course, we examine the theories and stages of Childhood Development as they relate to parenting.
Students are to (1) write, or (2) teach, or (3) present on one theory of child development (children from 2 to 12 years of age) from these three theories:
(1) Lev Vygotsky (Лев Выготский) Sociocultural Theory.
(2) Jean Piaget Constructivist Theory.
(3) Erik Erikson Lifespan Development Theory.
Students will need to apply one theory and its concepts learned in the textbook as well as incorporate information from 2 (two) additional sources, such as peer-reviewed journals articles. You have to read up about that stage of child development. Use the textbook, but it will be brief and not detailed. You need to provide details. Use two articles published in peer-reviewed journals that are provided in Moodle.
Note: You may find your own articles, but NOT use Psychology Today, Redbook, Huffington Post, Wikipedia, WebMD, or similar sources. None of the media articles are valid. Use Google Scholar (https://scholar.google.com/schhp?hl=en-US) or McNeese Library online (https://libguides.mcneese.edu/databases) to search for articles from peer-reviewed journals.
Regardless of the format, the content of your Final Project should consist of these elements:
FP’s STRUCTURE: Your FP should clearly identify these parts:
1. The introduction should be 3-6 sentences or no more than 1 minute or (1 slide) stating right away what is the paper about?
State which theory you chose and explain WHY? (Not because it explains how a child grows!!!). Points will be lost if WHY is not elaborated on!
2. The body of your project should be 5-pages (8 min) or 12 slides. Build upon the introduction. Must-answer questions:
2.1. Thoroughly discuss & explain the stages of development for 0-12 y.o. children.
2.2. What makes childhood development to be important for parenting?
2.3. In your opinion, what are the most challenging behaviors 1 for 2-5 y.o. and 1 for 10-12 y.o.?
2.4. Describe examples of effective parenting techniques to “fix” the behaviors and to prevent those from happening.
2.5. What makes you favor this theory or HOW does the theory help parents understand children; what makes it so?
3. The conclusion should be 3-6 sentences or no more than 1 min. or 1 slide to summarize the project and say:
What was the most interesting discovery you learned from writing this project and what made it to be interesting?
