Researchers use single factor experimental designs to study causal relationships

Researchers use single factor experimental designs to study causal relationships. For example, if researchers want to know if an exercise intervention reduces depression, they might randomly assign half the participants to receive the exercise intervention and the other half to not receive the exercise intervention. They could collect baseline and post-intervention data and compare the two groups. If the treatment group showed a significantly greater reduction of depression than the control group, the researchers would conclude that the exercise intervention reduced depression.
Think of a topic of interest, and please respond to the following:
__-Create a research question and hypothesis.
__-Summarize how you would construct a single factor experimental study to test your hypothesis. Include random assignment to groups and/or counterbalancing in your descriiption.
__-Describe the difference between using a between subjects design or a within subjects design.
__-For your topic, would you want to use a between subjects or within subjects design? Explain.

In Module Four, you learned how an experiment is conducted. One of the ways that you will likely use this information in your future career and life is to analyze and examine experimental research.
In this assignment, you will locate two journal articles that use the experimental method and are connected to the topic of your final project. The articles should not be correlational studies or review articles; you should only find articles that use the experimental method for this assignment. Also, these articles should not have been used in other assignments related to the final project. Next, you will provide a brief answer to each of the following questions for each of the articles.
How were the participants selected? Were the participants representative of the larger population?
How were the participants assigned to groups? Did the groups start out the same? Was there any bias in how the participants were assigned to groups?
What did the researchers do to ensure the experimental procedures were equal across the groups? If they did not ensure the procedures were equal, what should the researchers have done? Did the researchers follow APA ethical guidelines in conducting the research?
What were the independent and dependent variables of the experiment?
What was the outcome of the experiment?
How can you use the results of the research in your final paper?
