Write a short 2-page paper discussing one of the films. You will watch the film on your own time and use course concepts and theories to analyze & explain the film. Include a very brief synopsis of the film (less than a paragraph). The bulk of the paper will be devoted to discussing the ideas, concepts, and theories we’ve covered in class.
Papers must cite (but not quote at great length) at least one passage from a relevant reading that supports your response(s) to the film. This can be a reading from class or an outside source, but cite it properly. This will help you get into the practice of citing your sources that will be required for the final paper.
Remember that you will need to define each concept, term, idea or theory that you use and link it explicitly to the film you viewed.
NOTE: If you have already seen one of these films it is OK to use it for this paper, but you might get more out of this assignment if you watch a film you haven’t seen before.

The issues to address in your paper are:
8-10 aspects of deviance portrayed in the movie. Why do the elements of the film you selected count as deviance?
In your opinion, what were the most serious deviant acts depicted in the film? What were the least serious deviant acts? Why?
Which, if any, of the deviant acts were crimes?
Who was the most deviant character in the film? The least deviant? Why?
How are the deviant acts reacted to or addressed in the film? Do you think the characters demonstrated an appropriate reaction to the deviant acts? How might you have acted differently? Why? What are some non-deviant approaches that characters could have used in the film?
Which theory of deviance is most evident in this film? Explain. That is, what is the cause of these deviant behaviors?
While writing your paper, you must include and correctly use all 5 of the following concepts. Be sure to put the terms in bold so that I can easily identify them. It is not enough to just define the concepts in the paper. You need to demonstrate an understanding of the concepts by applying them to situations in the film.
Deviance
Crime
Social control
Norm

Post your 2-page reaction paper here.

Both of the articles in the second set of readings on organizational processes i

Both of the articles in the second set of readings on organizational processes in social movements (Polletta, Freeman) raise critical questions about what can be done in order to address the concerns raised by skeptics of the formalization of
SMOs (e.g. Matthews). Freeman fears that groups who see themselves as “structureless” are unaccountable, while Polletta suggests that organizations don’t just reflect efficiency but reflect cultural values and ideals alongside strategic concerns. Considering each of these sets of authors, which
perspectives do you find most convincing? Why?
(Answer this using Freemans Article that is attached i.e. Freemans perspective is the most convincing).

1. Choose a topic related to the course (my topic is Economic Inequality).
Next, connect your topic to an artistic outlet of your choice. For instance, how might a photographer’s image or a poem or a song capture the issue of opioid overdose?
Other examples: create an annotated song playlist (which is a musical version of an annotated bibliography), a descriiption of a piece of art, an engineering project, an architectural design
Here is what needs to be in each post – use these headings in your posts:
1. Explain why you chose the specific piece of art.
 how do you see it relating to issues of social inequality
 provide evidence (e.g., music lyrics, melodies, music video scenes, etc.) to support your reasoning.
Reflect on the topic. What does your chosen art and topic mean at a deeper level? What is the message being communicated? Is it effective?
*i attached an example. I need four paragraphs.

Do you think the family is in crisis in Canada today?
Reading:
Popenoe, D. (1993). American family decline, 1960-1990: A review and appraisal. Journal of Marriage and the Family, 527-542.
How to Retrieve this Article: Enter the name of the article (“American family decline, 1960-1990: A review and appraisal”) in the search bar of the MacEwan online library. Follow the ‘Find It’ prompts. If you have any problems accessing this article, please contact a librarian. Librarians can be reached in-person or online through the MacEwan online library ‘chat’ feature.
About the Article/Author:
David Popenoe is an American sociologist of the family. The central thesis of his body of work is that the [nuclear] family is deteriorating and that this represents a significant threat to society- increasing crime, decreasing educational attainments of children, and increasing childhood poverty for example. Popenoe is speaking to the American situation, but most of his broader points could equally be made by someone (with similar theoretical/political leanings) evaluating the Canadian situation as well.
Critical Reading Assignment: Critically respond to the article with a sociological lens. To guide your reading, reflection, and writing, it will be helpful to consider (1) the Structural Functionalist perspective on how the roles families fulfill contribute to the stability of society; (2) the Conflict or Feminist perspective on how the nuclear family exploits families/women; and/or (3) the Symbolic Interactionist perspective on how we ‘do families.’
